Follow the words

Opening · English

In the valley, dawn is breathing,
Over mountain, lake, and tree.
May every heart be heard in stillness;
May every life be seen and free.

Verse 1 · Hindi-Urdu

Vaadi mein subah utar rahi hai,
Har dil ki sadaa hum sun sakein.
Dard ko izzat, sach ko jagah ho,
Saath chalein, aur aman bunein.

Refrain · Bilingual

Let us witness, let us listen,
Let compassion light the way.
Aao, gawah banein; aao, sun lein,
Aman ka deep jalaayein.

Verse 2 · English

Global Social Witnessing,
Presence offered as a prayer;
Not to turn away from sorrow,
But to meet each other there.

Verse 3 · Hindi-Urdu

Na koi aansoo andekha ho,
Na koi aawaaz tanha rahe.
Insaf, mohabbat, saanjhi izzat,
Har raasta insaaniyat kahe.

Refrain · Bilingual

Let us witness, let us listen,
Let compassion light the way.
Aao, gawah banein; aao, sun lein,
Aman ka deep jalaayein.

Verse 4 · English

For Kashmir and for the whole world,
May the walls of fear grow thin.
Peace is made when truth is welcomed;
Peace is built when all belong within.

Verse 5 · Hindi-Urdu

Kashmir se duniya tak yeh paighaam:
Sulh bhi hum, umeed bhi hum.
Bikhri duniya jud sakti hai,
Ek dooje ki deed bhi hum.

Bridge · English

Where justice speaks and people gather,
Where every voice can shape the whole,
Peace grows roots through our compassion,
And dignity becomes our common goal.

Final refrain

We will witness, we will listen,
We will walk the peaceful way.
Aao, gawah banein; aao, sun lein,
Aman ka deep jalaayein.

Kashmir ke liye, duniya ke liye,
Aman ka deep jalaayein.
For Kashmir and for all the world,
Let the lamp of peace shine bright.

CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION

Raju facilitated a Kashmir witnessing session at Carter School Peace Week in 2025. The 2026 program continued this work. A slide in Raju’s earlier presentation drew attention to Justice Kaul’s call to remember and address past harms.

JUSTICE KAUL’S VISION FOR HEALING

“Wounds of inter-generational trauma need healing.”

The 2025 presentation connected Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul’s recommendation for an impartial Truth and Reconciliation Commission with a proposed community listening effort. Global Social Witnessing could complement formal reconciliation processes; it does not replace them or speak for affected communities.

THE EYES FOR WITNESSING

Collective trauma awareness

Global Social Witnessing offers a practice for staying present with difficult shared realities and holding collective trauma with compassion. Any circles would need to be shaped with participating communities and clear safeguards.

THE EARS FOR LISTENING

Individual support

The 2025 concept described deep, therapeutic listening and named EMDR and somatic psychology as possible complementary approaches. Their role, if any, would require qualified practitioners and an agreed care plan; the proposed initiative does not currently offer clinical treatment.

2026 · CARTER SCHOOL PEACE WEEK · SOUTH ASIA

Courageous witness.

Peace in South Asia: Reconciliation Through Global Social Witnessing

The September 21 gathering brought embodied awareness, Kashmiri lived experience, truth-and-reconciliation learning, and audience reflection into one conversation. Its purpose was to make room for truth, dignity, participation, and healing without prescribing Kashmir’s future.
